West Ham have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Dimitri Payet may be ruled out for three months.
The French midfielder has been a major factor in West Ham’s fine start to the season after his £10.7m summer move from Marseille but Payet, who has scored five goals in 14 appearances, suffered an ankle injury in a challenge from James McCarthy in the 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday. West Ham confirmed the news on their official website. “The France international had a scan on Sunday and after a consultation with a specialist on Monday, it is likely that he will be ruled out of action for three months,” read a statement.
Jack Sullivan, the son of West Ham’s joint owner David Sullivan, revealed the extent of the 28-year-old’s injury on Twitter: “Sadly Payet will be out for about 3 months! Huge miss for the team. How the Everton player didn’t get sent off amazes me!!”
