The striker has admitted he misses the "beauty" of
his homeland and says he could return to the country of his birth when
his contract with the Saints expires in 18 months
The 30-year-old has spent large parts of his career away abroad, with his most productive years coming since 2012 in Netherlands with Feyenoord and now in the Premier League with the Saints.
He has been a regular in the Italy side since 2014 - scoring four times in nine appearances - and has suggested he would consider moving back home.
“My contract [at Southampton] expires in 18 months, one year after Euro 2016,” he told a press conference ahead of his country’s friendly with Romania this week.
