Daniel Sturridge has moved a step closer to his first Liverpool appearance under Jürgen Klopp after returning to full training on Tuesday.
The injury-prone striker is yet to feature for Klopp, having damaged his knee in a training-ground collision with Jordon Ibe before the new manager’s debut at Tottenham Hotspur on 17 October. The problem has taken longer than expected to heal, due to a buildup of fluid on the knee, but after a period of light training the 26-year-old has now taken part in his first full training session at Melwood.
Liverpool face Sturridge’s former club Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday but it remains to be seen whether the England international will be considered despite intensifying his training.
Ibe and vice-captain James Milner are both in contention for the City game after resuming full training on Monday. However, they have not been absent for as long as Sturridge – Milner missed only the recent Crystal Palace defeat with a hamstring strain and Ibe sat out training for a week after that fixture with a bruised knee – and Klopp may decide the forward requires more training before a competitive return.
