Harry Kane believes Tottenham Hotspur’s unbeaten run in the Premier League is proof they can compete for a place among the big teams at the top of the table.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have not lost in 11 matches since an opening day defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford, a run that has included a 4-1 win against Manchester City, a draw at home to Liverpool and Sunday’s draw at Arsenal.
That sequence, says Kane, “shows that we can be up there with the big teams … we probably deserved to win against Liverpool, we beat City and probably maybe deserved to win [against Arsenal] as well.”
Last season Spurs finished fifth, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, but were routinely undone by a defence who shipped 53 goals – the worst record of any of side in the top half of the table. This season has seen a major improvement – only Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have conceded fewer goals – and this has, according to Kane, helped to make them “a tough side to beat”.
